    PRESIDENT DESCRIPTION ORGANIZATION: The Chamber represents nearly 400 businesses, and 5,000 employees in Los Altos and nearby areas. Acting on our mission to attract, develop and retain business in Los Altos, the Chamber delivers more than 40 programs and events each year and advocates for a prosperous economy and high quality of life for everyone who lives, works and visits the city of Los Altos and the town of Los Altos Hills.
     
    SUMMARY: The President will provide high profile leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the programs and staff of the Chamber of Commerce. The President will facilitate and lead collaborative staff and Board efforts to achieve the mission and goals of the Chamber as approved by the Board of Directors.
     
    The President has full P&L responsibility. The President will demonstrate knowledge and expertise on economic development principles, the regional economy, political environment, marketing and branding concepts, membership sales, and the opportunities and challenges to the growth and prosperity of all businesses in the region.
     
    The successful candidate for this position must be a leader and a passionate advocate for driving the Chamber to achieve standards of excellence. He/she will be a highly collaborative leader with the ability to successfully manage current programs while developing new programs and strategic initiatives for the Chamber and forming mutually beneficial partnerships with other business and community organizations within the region.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Program Development and Management
     
    · Identify and create opportunities to grow the Chamber and support the business community through innovative ideas and practices.
     
    · Responsible for planning, organizing, and execution of Board and Executive Committee meetings with the Chair of the Board.
     
    · Aggressively develop and execute sponsorship fund-raising strategies which further the mission and financial resources of the Chamber.
     
    · Develop the long-term goals and direction of the Chamber to continuously support the growth and development of business success in the area.
     
    · Align and coordinate the Chamber with other public policy and economic development groups and like-minded organizations to develop programs and sponsorships that are mutually beneficial and align on key policy issues.
     
    · Provide oversight, support and direction to the on-going programs at the Chamber.
     
     · Develop and maintain professional relationships with business and community organizations, City of Los Altos & Los Altos Hills government staff, and elected officials.
     
    Financial Management
     
    · Oversee the general finances of the Chamber.
     
    · In concert with the Board Treasurer, Bookkeeper and Executive Committee of the Board, develop an annual budget for the Chamber’s operations that delineates projected revenues and expenses and a projected net profit as appropriate.
     
    · Lead, direct and develop Chamber’s fund-raising strategies.
     
    Public Policy Development and Public Relations, Marketing
     
    · Facilitate the Chamber’s position as the leading “Voice of Business” in Los Altos with local government.
     
    · Represent and promote the Chamber and its policies and objectives in a variety of public forums, including monthly Government Affairs Meeting and Los Altos City Council meetings.
     
    · Articulate and develop messages related to public policy positions of the Chamber that will explain the impact on the economic health of businesses in the region.
     
    · Achieve and maintain high visibility in the community to create awareness and increase the perception of value of the programs and services and the political influence of the Chamber.
     
    · Oversee development of marketing messages, collateral materials and website content.
     
    Personnel Management:
    · Oversee the management of the Chamber staff including hiring, firing, performance reviews, salary and benefits administration, policy and general supervision.
     
    · Coach and develop the internal leadership team to attain consistent, highly effective performance.
     
    · Promote a working environment of excellence, external and internal collaboration and professional standards for the organization.
     
     
     
     
    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
    · A minimum of 5 years of Senior level management experience which could include private industry, trade associations, economic development and/or related public sector or not-for-profit organizations.
     
    · A proven successful manager with the ability to provide dynamic internal and external leadership to the Chamber to achieve revenue objectives, budgeted annual gross and net revenue, and other program and financial goals within the annual business plan. Individual will work closely with Board of Directors and staff to achieve success together.
     
    · Knowledge and understanding of the business community, economic development and political dynamics within Silicon Valley. Prefer an individual with existing solid relationships with key political decisionmakers and influencers.
     
    · Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic business or political strategies and manage the tactical execution to achieve results.
     
    · A business person with a track record of involvement at the leadership level in community organizations, trade associations and public sector organizations.
     
    · An excellent internal leader recognized for the ability to develop, motivate and build functional teams that regularly achieve and maintain superior levels of performance. Ability to manage and empower staff, recognize employees and build positive morale throughout the organization.
     
    · Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a credible reputation and high-profile presence in the community on behalf of an organization.
     
    · Proven excellence in written and oral communication.
