New Things In The Nursery
Mike Boss is the owner of Hidden Forest Nursery, located in Sebastopol. https://www.sonomacountygazette.com/sonoma-county-news/a-leap-for-the-earth-saves-a-local-treasure-the-hidden-forest-nursery http://sonomacountynurseries.com/nurseries/sonoma-horticultural-nursery The Hidden Forest web page is currently “under construction”. https://www.hiddenforestnursery.com This is a historic nursery that was formerly Sonoma Horticultural Nursery. http://www.sonomahort.com http://www.sonomahort.com/about_us.htm Mike Boss purchased Sonoma Horticultural Nursery in 2017, saving if from the hands of a real estate developer. At Hidden Forest Nursery Mike Boss will continue growing rhododendrons and is expanding his offerings of shade loving plants. He is very excited to be offering a new line of long lived edibles: trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials: plants that one can build a garden with that will not only add structure and texture to a garden, but also food, tea, herbs, and medicines. Not only does Hidden Forest Nursery have a large selection of rhododendrons (especially maddenii rhododendrons which are perfect for container gardening in the patio of a condo or an apartment), there are also a wide variety of plants such as Japanese maples, magnolia, dogwood, clematis, weigela, lapageria, and campanula. Hidden Forest Nursery has a large display garden (which in it has a large pond) consisting of several acres with over one and a half miles of pathways, and is a good place to visit and see how plants grow, especially in the Spring when rhododendrons and other plants are in bloom. https://scholar.lib.vt.edu/ejournals/JARS/v44n4/v44n4-campbell.htm On Wednesday February 19, 2020 at 7:30 PM, in the basement of the Los Altos Masonic Lodge (close to the elevator and the stairs), 146 Main Street, Los Altos, the De Anza Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature a program by Mike Boss on New Things In The Nursery, and will inform us on new plans for the nursery.
