Community School of Music and Arts kicks off its
Spring 2020 Community Concert Series with fan favorite Tiffany Austin
MOUNTAIN VIEW –Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) in Mountain View announces the first concert in its Spring Community Concert Series: Jazz vocalist Tiffany Austin in A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. The concert will be held on Saturday February 8 at 7:30pm in Tateuchi Hall. This performance, and all others in the series, is free and open to the public.
Tiffany Austin first performed in Tateuchi Hall in 2018. A fan favorite, Austin is back with a tribute to the legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. “When I was growing up,” says Austin, “my grandmother would play a lot of classic swing and I heard the strains of Ella throughout my childhood. When I got a little older, I stumbled upon a record in my brother's collection: Night in Tunisia. I put it on, and Ella's voice soared out of the speakers. When she scatted over the vocal break, I couldn't believe my ears. I didn't know what she was doing, but I knew that I wanted to do it. The effortlessness, the mastery, the joy that she imparts with her voice was something I couldn't get over, and something that I'm still enamored with to this day.”
A Bay Area native, the jazz vocalist and composer Tiffany Austin appeared on the national scene in 2015 with the release of “Nothing But Soul,” one of the decade’s most widely hailed debut albums. With her second album, “Unbroken,” she stakes a claim as a formidable songwriter and intrepid musical explorer. The album received four stars from Downbeat Magazine, five stars from All About Jazz and reached #16 on Jazz Week Chart. “Unbroken” was also recognized as one of the best jazz albums in 2018 by Mercury News.
In keeping with CSMA’s mission to provide Arts 4 All, Community Concerts are free and open to the public.
