Live theatre abounds in Los Altos with opportunities to attend and participate in productions year round. Musicals, dramas, adult comedies, youth theatre, dramatic scripture, readers theatre, educational theatre and plays for children are produced by four theatre companies in a variety of local theatre spaces. All four welcome participants and volunteers to join in the creative spirit.
BUS BARN STAGE COMPANY produces five shows a year in the intimate 100 seat Bus Barn Theatre, next to the Hillview Community Center. Bus Barn Stage Company is a professionally managed company, producing plays and musicals that reflect the diverse tastes of the community and providing an atmosphere in which actors, directors and designers can create quality theatre. Opening night parties, group rates, and reduced subscription ticket prices are offered. FOOTHILL COLLEGE THEATRE ARTS DEPARTMENT, FOOTHILL MUSIC THEATRE & FOOTHILL THEATRE CONSERVATORY produce shows in the on-campus Smithwick and Lohman theaters that spotlight the high quality of training and professionalism at Foothill College.
Award-winning Foothill Music Theatre presents two fully staged musicals each year, in February and July, many of which receive Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle and Drama-Logue awards. Auditions for these shows are open to all. The conservatory curriculum is an intense training program for vocationally oriented students.
Regularly scheduled productions include a play for children, large comedy or drama and a one-act play festival. The college's theatre arts department also produces several plays throughout the year and auditions open to all.

LOS ALTOS METHODIST PLAYERS (LAMP) stages both religious presentations in services and secular drama at Creekside Theatre. Since 1981 it has been a producing company open to all, offering learning opportunities for beginning and seasoned performers and directors, as well as training speakers for Lay Reading. The outreach program also features "Living Masterpiece" presentations from Da Vinci to Norman Rockwell. LAMP meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday evening of the month at the Los Altos United Methodist Church. For information phone 948-1083.
LOS ALTOS YOUTH THEATRE, the awarding winning program, sponsored by the City of Los Altos Recreation Department, has existed for over forty years. The staff strives to create a supportive, nurturing environment, where actors learn and practice the craft of acting while simultaneously applying the skills of cooperation, collaboration, responsibility and respect. Young actors are challenged but not pushed - always with the belief that the most positive process yields the most positive results.
