The Los Altos STAR Group was launched in 2004 by
several members of the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce. It helps
its members generate leads that will create more business and
also works with its members to improve business strategies and
foster improved working and business relationships.
The members experience significant benefits as a
result of being part of the group. In calendar year 2005, for
example, the group generated 150 leads for its members. Some of
them have become so successful, in part due to referrals from
the group, they have left the group with an increased clientele
that, in and of itself, is a significant source of new referrals.
In addition to hearing from members about the products
and services they provide, the group hears from outsiders who
have products, services or information of benefit to the members.
In calendar year 2005, for example, the group heard from a representative
of SCORE (www.svscore.org),
which offers free counseling to small business owners by experienced
business executives, and NOVA (www.novaworks.org),
which screens and places employees at no charge.
The group is composed of a growing number of dynamic
businesses in various industries (to avoid conflicts of interest,
membership is limited to one business in any given industry).
